IN THE HOUR OF CHAOS

Andrew Emery

(Hip Hop Connection)

Much has been made of The White Stripes over the past twelve months. They went from highly random Detroit indie group to the world’s biggest small band. Elephant swept the board for critics’ album of the year; Jack White made his silver-screen debut in Cold Mountain; Seven Nation Army became more addictively hummable than The Birdy Songand The Von Bondies became public enemy number one in the music world for casting a shadow over Sir Jack’s year.

Big times for these two siblings/divorcees then. This tour saw them finishing off what they had planned to do in 2003 before Jack White foolishly broke his finger. Divvy. The Royal Court seemed an apt venue, anyhow, and the crowd were ready to rock!

Which was a shame…
